The Gown, the independent student newspaper at QUB, features an article on Iris Robinson this September. The article takes pride of place on the front page, continuing on page four, with quotes from this year’s president, Sarah Boles.
This year’s Belfast Pride festival passed peacefully, considering it came amidst such an inhospitable climate of tolerance. Speaking on the matter, President of Queen’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender group, Sarah Boles noted, “Pride this year was a wonderful, united event which bought the LGBT community and members of the public together to celebrate the colourful diversity of our city.”
And notably includes positive promises from this year’s Equality and Diversity Officer, Shane Brogan, that the student’s union will not tolerate Homophobia.
Brogan told The Gown that his department and indeed the entire Executive “will be working with groups such as the LGBT Society at Queen’s and NUS-USI to ensure that she [Iris Robinson] will be held to account”.

Welcome week commences this Monday the 22nd of September so we figured we’d update you on what happens when semester starts the week after! On Wednesday the 1st of October the Freshers Bazaar takes place, here you’ll be able to sign up to society and the mailing list for a reduced fee of £3 and meet the current team.
Wednesday the 8th is our first Chill and Chat gathering in Bar Sub (downstairs @ SU) at 1pm. It’ll just be a relaxed introductory session over a drink and a sandwich where we’ll catch up on all the gossip from freshers week and find out a bit about one another.
Finally the First Meeting will be on Thursday the 9th at 8pm on the 3rd Floor of the SU Club rooms 3& 4 (will be sign posted). At this meeting the exec will introduce themselves and their roles (President, Treasurer and Secretary) and provide a bit of info on what the society is about. Then there’ll be a few introductory games to help the group get to know one another! Once that’s over we’ll head to Bar Sub for a drink and then onto the Kremlin if anyone would like to have a proper dance and a laugh
If you don’t want to head out that’s okay too, the society is here for you and you can make it what you want.
If you’d like any more info just send a quick email to site@qublgbt.org.uk and we’ll get back to you ASAP

Today our LGBT Society Bebo page got it’s 10,000th visit. After going live in May of 2007 the page remains one of the society’s easiest ways to keep in touch and catch up on the latest news. After being set up for use instead of a website (as our own used to be a rather sorry affair) the Bebo page functioned as our only internet source until March 2008 when this current site was created. The page continues to hold polls, blogs and popular and serious videos with 275 ‘friends’.
Since it’s launch in March, qublgbt.org.uk has attracted over 6,200 views with an average of 32 individual hits a day. This serves as a fantastic testament to the sheer amount of people who wish to gain more knowledge about our society and keep in touch.
