Queen’s LGBT Society welcomes people who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender but also curious, open-minded and heterosexually identified people alike who wish to be involved in campaign issues or provide support to an LGBT friend.

The LGBT Society at Queen’s was formed officially in the 1960’s although various unofficial groups existed for many years prior to this. It was the first society to be set up on the Island of Ireland and has had a long history of activism. It was re-established as an active group a few years ago and progressed steadily providing a comprehensive and confidential Society for all LGBT students at Queens.

In 2006/07 the society attracted a record number of students to its initial meeting and was recognised at the annual Clubs and Societies Award Ceremony as the ‘Best new Society’ for 2006/7.

2007/08 signalled an exciting evolution for the society. The Society was successful in securing a grant from The Queen’s Annual Fund and received £3000 which funded five members of the Society to attend USI’s annual Pink Training in Cork and run Sexual Health Awareness and Guidance Week (SHAG Week) in February. We handed out over 1000 SHAG packs and hosted “GI Jonny Night” in the Student’s Union, helping to inform and protect all students at Queen’s.

Today not only do it’s members have the opportunity to participate in social events but in support, training and political ones too.
